Allison Woods Outdoor Learning Center

Welcome to Allison Woods Outdoor Learning Center - Where nature becomes the classroom.

Nestled among lakes, streams, forest trails, and thriving ecosystems, Allison Woods Outdoor Learning Center transforms land and water into immersive learning spaces.
Our 19-acre lake—with controlled access and documented land use history—offers a unique opportunity for physical and ecological research, including studies of the riparian zone and surrounding forest.
Our Mission
At Allison Woods Outdoor Learning Center, we inspire a lifelong connection to the natural world through hands-on outdoor education. Our programs empower learners of all ages to become environmental stewards, working toward a sustainable future for generations to come.
A Legacy of Learning Since 1992
Originally founded as the Allison Woods Foundation, our center opened to the community in 1993. And although the Outdoor Learning Center is a separate entity from the Allison Woods Family Partnership, and not funded by same, our visiion aligns that of Tom Allison whose dream of a Classroom in the Forest was published in the Iredell Neighbors, 1994.
